Pre-Dating History

At First Glance – September 8, 2008
Devin and I first met at FHE. For FHE that night, we were playing two truths and a lie. We played a version where 3 people went out and decided on a story to tell - it was me, Mitch, and Brian. We decided to use my story of having a crush on my cousin, Jake. Devin was late to this particular FHE; he walked in right as the FHE group was asking me if I kissed my cousin. I, of course, was a bright shade of red. This marked the beginning. We don’t remember all the chronology of falling in love, but we do remember specific events. I have tried to document them in the order we remember them occurring.

The Spoon – September 14, 2008
Our FHE group instantly hit it off great. We enjoyed spending time together and Rachel and Annalee were quick to start us off. They invited the FHE brothers over for a dinner. Everyone was having a grand old time – flirting, talking and goofing off. Devin and I happened to be sitting next to one another (happened, or on purpose?) for a large portion of dinner. For dessert, we had a delicious chocolate cake. The slices were huge. I was struggling to finish mine, but as I did so I teased Devin for not being able to finish his. Somehow that brought on Devin’s dare to lick the cake/frosting off of his spoon. I’m usually pretty quick to take up a dare and replied okay and ate the cake! Devin’s been in love ever since.

The Walk – September 15, 2008

Another week of FHE came around and this activity (Fugitive) involved most of the group running around town, trying to get to Jessica’s work (Down East) before the “it” car found us! I didn’t really want to go; I wasn’t feeling that great and didn’t feel like running around town. I stuck it out though. As we split off into groups I frantically ran around campus and Rexburg with Amber and a few others. The groups continued to split off more and more. And, one by one (or in groups) we all got caught by the car. Devin was the first to get caught, guess he didn’t feel like running around either. When we all made it to Down East, there were way too many of us to fit in the car. Some of the “family” wanted to try; as Devin and I sat outside watching everyone attempt to squeeze in the car, I casually asked Devin if he just wanted to walk. Amber came with us. Devin and I had an easy time talking, and I soon found Amber apologizing for coming along because she didn’t want to intrude on us. I laughed it off saying I had no interest in Devin and it was only friendly. Instead of walking home, we all met up at the snow shack for a snow cone. With the crowds of everyone there, and a hello from Jordan, Devin and I went our own ways.

The Phone –September 18, 2008
Thursday night I went out for ice cream with Jordan. I had been hanging out with Jordan a lot. When we got back to my apartment we walked in on Rachel’s phone being burnt! Devin was already there hanging out with my roommates (he had been coming around a lot). After the excitement of Rachel’s phone melting in the oven, I told Jordan I was really tired and needed to go to sleep. So, I told a little white lie. Really, I just wanted to hang out with Devin without Jordan being there. Right after Jordan left I came back out and spent the rest of the night with Devin and my roommates. We sat outside on the balcony talking. For some reason Devin was playing with an old piece of licorice on the ground. This was a good chat.

Laughter – September 21, 2008
I have no idea what made me say this, but it was included in my happy list for September 21: “Having a good laugh with my FHE brother, Devin”

The Drive – September 22, 2008
For this FHE, we went to IF to visit with a member of the bishopric, actually it was the secretary. A lot of us had vehicles, but no one wanted to drive. I certainly didn’t. Devin and I were the only ones left willing to volunteer. I told him that if he drove, we could take my car. So, we did. He drove my car with Rachel, Annalee, Mitch, and I. It was a fun drive! Mitch, Annalee and Rachel kept going off on politics so Devin and I had the opportunity to chat. As usual, we hit it off great. After we got back from FHE, Devin and Mitch stayed to watch a movie with my roommates. I was crushing by this point. For some odd reason I named him Charles

Setback – September 26, 2008
Right after we got to Brother Jameson’s house, Andy had saved me a seat. There went me and Devin’s bonding time. It’s only natural to be flirty with Andrew. I kept occasionally glancing over at Devin, wondering what he thought of me flirting with both of them in one night. This led to Andrew and I going on a date. It was a fun date! However, I was afraid it would ruin things with Devin and I.

Falling – September 27, 2008
Falling, or more like being pushed! After the Relief Society conference the roommates and I invited the bros over for caramel apples. Devin came over, but had to leave soon to go play at the gymnasium. He started asking me, but then asked everyone present to come. I was hesitant, but didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to hang out with Devin. It was a little awkward at first, because Annalee, Caitlin, and I felt like we were intruding on Devin and his friends. It was fun though. There was a foam pit. We spent a lot of time jumping in. Everyone else did flips and such. Towards the end, Devin and I got in a foam fight. We kept pushing each other in. The others were involved too, but it was obvious that most of it was between Devin and I. After we got back, we got in a water fight. Rachel kept telling us not to get everything wet. We got wet though. He chased me outside with water (or maybe it was the other way around). My roommates locked us out. By this point, they’d noticed the signs and were trying to hook us up. As I sat outside wet and cold, Rachel used this to her advantage and encouraged, “you have to warm the women before we let you back in!”

Happy List: “-Going to a gymnasium and jumping around! Foam fights are the best!-Hanging out with Devin tonight, water fight included. He is the happiest person I think I've ever met, and it just rubs off!

Rubik’s cube – October 4, 2008
After conference on Saturday I headed over to the guys apartment to hang out. Devin was bumming around. Everyone instantly thought I came to see him. Maybe I was, but I didn’t think I was THAT obvious. I guess he thought by this point we were starting to know each other better, because he introduced me to his Rubik’s Cube talent. This is when I fell for Devin. I couldn’t believe how smart he was! I was determined to solve the Rubik’s Cube while he was at the priesthood session, but I couldn’t. We hung out after the priesthood session.

Amazing Grace – October 5, 2008
Devin amazes me. I think he is an amazing person. As we got to know each other, Devin did a lot that most guys wouldn’t. Devin did homework with me. I had to watch the movie Amazing Grace, and Devin watched with me. My roommates didn’t feel like watching (or they wanted to leave us alone) so it was just the two of us. He was on one side of the couch and I was on the other. We both snuggled in our own blankets with our feet up on the couch. Occasionally our feet would touch as we shifted our wait. Yikes! I would quickly move away. My roommates kept coming in and making comments like, “Why aren’t you two cuddling yet?” No cuddling that night. We did, however, get in a tickle fight.

Flirting like 4 year olds – October 6, 2008
The next day Annalee and Mitch were texting about Devin and me. Both of our roommates were starting to talk about us. Mitch suggested that unless I made some sort of sign that I would go out on a date with Devin, he wasn’t going to do anything (my date with Andy pushed him away a bit). Mitch also said that Devin and I flirted like 4 year olds.

The Sign – October 7, 2008
I decided to do it. Tuesday I called and invited Devin to join me, Kim, and Melissa at Devotional. I think he was shocked I called. Sure enough though, he met me at devotional. We talked through the whole thing. I used to be really good at paying attention to Devotional. As Devin walked me to my next class, social dance, he got the guts to ask me out! He asked me out to dinner for the following night. Yeheehee!

The First Date – October 8, 2008
See part 2!
